Land & Water Australia's National Riparian Lands R&D Program is working with different industry groups to tailor information about river and riparian areas so that it can be integrated into on-farm management systems. This approach is leading to both environmental and economic on-farm outcomes, with guidelines now covering the sugar and cotton industries. Work is now underway to produce guidelines for the wool industry.

Managing Riparian Lands in the Sugar Industry
The Sugar Research & Development Corporation and Land & Water Australia have co-funded the development of a guideline for the sugar industry that focuses specifically on riparian management on cane farms. Key sugar industry, research and government departments were involved in the project, as well as an important group of cane growers who worked with the research team to define the issues to be covered and ensured that the guideline met their industry's needs. The guideline is intended for use by extension officers and those working with cane growers to develop more sustainable management practices on-farm.
